ABBYY Recognition Server
The ABBYY Recognition Server is a robust server-based solution for automating the recognition and PDF conversion process in enterprise environments. It is capable of performing multiple tasks simultaneously across an enterprise and monitoring them from a single central administration point.
It can be used as a complete turnkey solution as well as an integral part of an external system, such as content management systems, document management systems, enterprise resource planning systems, document capture, and document sorting systems.
ABBYY Recognition Server has been named one of the “Trend-Setting Products of the Year for 2006” by KMWorld magazine. This prestigious ranking highlights innovative products that make a significant impact on the marketplace.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
There are three key elements in any document recognition and conversion process performed by ABBYY Recognition Server:
Server Manager - manages all requests, processing options, services and distributes various recognition and conversion jobs among processing stations.
Processing Station - performs OCR and document conversion. It processes jobs received from the server manager. The whole system is highly scalable and can be easily expanded by adding additional processing stations to meet higher processing demands.
Remote Administration Console - provides a common administration interface for configuration and monitoring. It can be installed with the server manager or on a separate work station.
In addition, ABBYY Recognition Server provides access through an Open API for customization and integration with external applications to create XML tickets, job management and XML result analyses.
MANAGES TASKS VIA TWO MAIN ELEMENTS:
Workflow – the automation of a business process in which information and tasks are passed from one resource to another for action according to a set of procedural rules. Workflow parameters include such items as scheduling, processing criteria (e.g. recognition scenario, language), output formats, and error handling.
Job - a unit of processing (e.g. a set of documents and the processing parameters for this set). Jobs can contain one or several documents and inherit the processing parameters of the workflows in which they were created. Jobs are also accompanied by XML-tickets to manage parameters which may be used to extend or override the workflow settings.
WHEN TO USE ABBYY RECOGNITION SERVER
Recognition Server’s sever-based architecture is well-suited for a variety of applications:
- Document recognition running as an unattended operation. Scheduling functions and «watched folders» enable processing to run simply at the insertion of a document into a file folder, or at night, on weekends, peak-off hours, etc.
- Distributed scanning with easily managed centralized processing. Recognition Server is well-suited for use in a multi-user, multi-location corporate environment. Insurance, for example, may have documents scanned at each local office which then submit the documents to the server for central processing.
- Mid-to-high –volume processing. The system provides multiple processing queues and easy scalability through addition of multiple workstations.
- Business process outsourcing (BPO) applications. Recognition Server is ideal for service providers because it is easy to configure settings for a variety of different jobs.
